Thursday Recs

I've been on my semi-regular reread of Stargate Atlantis classics. I only really know the classics, because I got into the fandom like, 6 years too late for anyone to still be writing in it, so here are some new recs of old fics!

Healing Station Argh
This fic is a little silly in that the team finds out Ronan used to be an actor on the Pegasus galaxy version of Grey's Anatomy, but then it becomes an actually lovely story about poly and dildos. Also has several humorous space euphemisms for being queer.

War Bride
John takes Rodney home to meet his brother and Rodney is everything John needs and it's sweet and lovely and also about the pain of your family not knowing you.

Friendly
This is a really lovely but often painful fic about queer community when you can't be out, and looking out for each other, and John finding community after a long time of isolation, despite sad and difficult circumstances. It's fics like these that remind you so much of how even fandom was different not that long ago, and the how these fics have aged as time has passed.

Team Dynamics
Team poly fic! John is emotionally repressed and the rest of the team wait for him! Sweet and lovely and great

Term of Service
In many ways, a relic of when "slavefic" was a Fandom Thing, and definitely shows its age in that way, but also a clever spin on the tropes, and thoughtful about the consequences for the characters, but from Rodney's perspective, who has the emotional insight of a whelk.

Written By The Victors
THE classic Atlantis fic. Written as "found" history, interspersed with actual writing. Leaves a lot unsaid, but obviously very good and well remembered for a reason. also the fic number (the /# in the url) is FIFTEEN. we're all the crypt keepers.

Retrograde
A very very epic series! I love this and reread it all the time, is about trust and community, and integrates with the greater SGA universe, and changes POV a lot, and it's one of those really rare fics that is just a great and gripping adventure story. Wish I could read more scifi novels by this person tbh.

Sheppard's Law
Love this one, where Rodney travels back in time to save John's life over and over. Fun and funny and the buildup at the end is so good, when John reveals he's been waiting for Rodney to catch up! The time-traveller's wife before it got written, and with less German poetry.
