I said on twitter I was going to make this post after I finished this week and its awful round of exams but I call bullshit. I've given up even thinking about revising for my math paper tomorrow. What's gonna happen is gonna happen and I'm just going to have to suck it up.

Last week I went away on a school trip with the Spanish department. Since we had four airports and three flights (to get to Spain guys. Scotland is not that far from Spain. and yet.) I decided I should try out this new-fangled podfic thing. I tweeted asking people for recs and masterlist and isweedan helped me out. This is what happened.

I've listened to podfic before (I think my first was a SPN epic, which was one of my few forays into fic for SPN fandom, apart from some recs and dicking around in the kink meme) but I'm not good with audio input. It's one of the reasons I can listen to music and read because I'm pretty good at tuning it out. Therefore, when I'd tried podfic in the past, I'd listen for the first minute or so and then be forced to rewind and listen again, which kinda defeats the purpose of podfic. I'm one of those boring traditional people who only ever reads their fic on their laptop, sitting down. (Although, I have started downloading fic and reading it on my phone for portable pornyness)

However, if you follow me on twitter, you would have probably caught the aprox. six ALL CAPS tweets about how awesome podfic is. I was really surprised by how much I liked it! I think I benefited by being stuck on a plane and not having a lot of other options. Before, I would try and multitask while listening and stop paying attention. Being on a plane with people who I'm not overly fond of meant that I was concentrating only on the reader.

Spain was awesome and great time and I like the people I went with much more now and speak better Spanish now too but that is NOT THE POINT. On the flights back (three, again) I was really horribly ill with one of the worst colds I've had in a long time and I was just NOT IN THE MOOD to deal with anyone human around me so I put my headphones in and left them in, even in the airport, and just didn't listen to anything my teachers told me and it was an excellent decision. I'm following one of the teachers through Madrid airport, clogged up and hating my life, when in Baby, My Heart's Ticking Only for You, Pete and Mikey start actually fucking and my life was immediately better. I felt like an international person of mystery. My teacher and my boring RL school sortof-friends were standing RIGHT THERE and Pete and Mikey are fucking and it was amazing, okay? I felt like a spy.

The Name of this Thing is Not Love written by fictionalaspect, read by pennyplainknits

I love listening to pennyplainknits and her reading of this story is pitch-perfect. She even sings some of Brendon's song parts, she's included the music mentioned in the fic and Spencer's POV comes across beautifully. (It's also pretty scorchingly hot.)

Baby, My Heart's Ticking Only for You written by fictionalaspect, read by quintenttsy

I'd forgotten how much I loved this story, Pete's beautiful POV and the sort, love storyness of this whole fic and quintenttsy's reading just completely reminded me. Somehow, I don't know how, Pete's optimism and love just shines through so much and it was just the story I needed when I was feeling terrible. I listened to it three times and loved every second of it. (The title to this entry is from the fic, actually.)

More Joy Day Podficlets written and read by by pennyplainknits

Just like My Heart's Only Ticking For You, the More Joy Podficlets were just what I needed when I was feeling shit. I think my favorites were probably Monroeville Sunsets, It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss and my MOST favorite Starting with a bang. They're all adorable and lovely and perfect.

What podfic are you keen on? I have Forever, Now (harriet_vane's epic kidfic, read by klb)downloaded but I think I'll need a good long while to finish listening to that. I might save it for my transatlantic flights this summer. (It's something crazy like nine hours.) I need your recs!
