*clings to internet* A MEME
Dec. 19th, 2012 03:56 pmHi everybody! I know I've been away for ages and I miss it so much. I wish I had more of a chance to be more active in fandom, even though bandom seems pretty quiet. Just because bandom itself is pretty quiet doesn't mean I don't want to be hanging out and talking with people. Conventional Weapons seems to be shaping up to be an awesome album and MCR themselves seem to be slowly coming out of hibernation. I can't wait to download the songs (I've listened to them but not downloaded them yet. So far The Light Behind Your Eyes is my favorite)
Empires new video is great. Not like, super interesting, but it has Sean firing a flaming arrow (whhhhhyy bb do not do dangerous stuff you will DIE) and Max smiling and walking around and Doing Stuff. and Tom smiles! It's beautiful.
Life in La Hoya continues much as normal. Thankfully Sandy did not do much damage to us. We lost running water to the village for two weeks but nothing more serious than that. My students set their exams last week and did alright. I nearly lost my mind over grading but I love teaching and the students continue to be a joy, even when they're fricking pains in my ass.
One think I've found unable to do in the DR is write. I think it's the inspiration just not being there and also not being able to bounce ideas off people regularly. I can do a bit here and there but it's mostly tinkering, not anything that could be continued real writing. SO, a meme! A WIP meme, to be exact. I'll list names/summaries of all my WIPS, unfinished, never-to-be-finished and plotbunnies and if you comment with one of the names, I'll post an except or write a bit more of it or answer questions about it, whatever you want.

IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE
May. 19th, 2012 01:00 amRec Post!
EXAMS ARE DONE.
...
EXAMS ARE DONE.
I don't think I failed and I hope I got all the points I need. I doubt I met my predicted scores, which were ridiculously high, but I did well enough (I think) which is all I wanted. I'm just so glad it's over.and to celebrate, I have made a rec post!
My ways of dealing with stress mostly involve reading fic, 'cause it gets me out of my brain and calms me when I start panicking, so I went through a lot of fic over the exam session and I've posted a selection of my favorites here. They're mostly newish, apart from a couple that I saw linked on my twitter feed. I also mainlined
littlemousling ,
inlovewithnight and
lalejandra 's back catalogues.
Seperated by fandom, with writer summaries and my notes. Read warnings on the actual fic.

Title: I Wear My Heart Where God Put It (On The Inside)
Author:
girlmarauders
Bands and pairings: Panic! At The Disco, Brendon/Dallon
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 7,092
Warnings: Some potentially triggery issues for gender identity/genderqueer identity. It’s the 1920s. Attitudes are problematic at best. Incredibly unrealistic history. Distinct lack of fact checking. Blatant white-washing of gender essentialism. Seriously, the most accurate parts of this are the clothes and the cars.
Summary:
“I like people and I like them to like me, but I wear my heart where God put it, on the inside.” – F. Scott Fitzgerarld.
Brendon’s a little messed up and inclined to perform in a dress at Angels and Kings as Cora Anaconda, the sweetest voice ever to come out of the Chicago speakeasies.
He doesn’t have a plan at all but he certainly doesn’t plan to fall in love with the tallest rum runner this side of Boston either.
Author notes: Thanks
misprintify for cheering and betaing, you were great as always. Thank you so much to
focusfixated. Your art was amazing and I only hope I did it even a little bit of justice. Written for 2011

Happy Late Valentines!
Feb. 15th, 2012 09:14 pmSo, I've been having a lot of Bebe Rexha feelings the past couple days. I've been tweeting about it, but it's become difficult to express the true extent of her quality in 140 characters. So I made a picspam. When I uploaded my "Bebe Rexha" folder, photobucket told me there were 53 pictures. There are less than 53 pictures in this post, I promise.
So this is sort of a late Valetine's gift to everyone, since everyone stands to gain from more Bebe in their life. Thank you
delphinapterus for the cute heart!
( sometimes people are so beautiful they ruin my life. this is one of those times )

"yes, yes, go, go, live a little"
Feb. 9th, 2012 08:33 pmI said on twitter I was going to make this post after I finished this week and its awful round of exams but I call bullshit. I've given up even thinking about revising for my math paper tomorrow. What's gonna happen is gonna happen and I'm just going to have to suck it up.
Last week I went away on a school trip with the Spanish department. Since we had four airports and three flights (to get to Spain guys. Scotland is not that far from Spain. and yet.) I decided I should try out this new-fangled podfic thing. I tweeted asking people for recs and masterlist and
isweedan helped me out. This is what happened.
( conclusion: podfic is awesome )

delphinapterus
Track Listing:

Cmaj K.421 - Scarlatti
Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G major - Bach
Sonata No. 7 Op. 83 - Prokofiev
Space - DJ Keoki
Moon Beat - LJT Experience
Space Maker - Air
Planisphere - Wakoo
Diaraby - Ali Farka Touré
Ashwa - Natacha Atlas
Konti - Baka Beyond
Quelqu'un m'a dit - Carla Bruni
Burn - Anoushak Shankar & Karsh Kale
Surfin on a Rocket - Air
Obtener un Sí - Shakira
Ball - Craig Armstrong & The London Session Orchestra
Irodori - KODO
C'est Gai [Sad Thoughts] - Amina
Sumeria - Transglobal Underground
Reunion - Ravi Shankar
C'est Ca Le Vrai Bonheur - G-Swing
Download it here!
I love the use of different genres and different languages in the mix. It really articulates the mix of cultures The Home System is meant to be and gives an other-worldly, international feel to it.
The classical music, especially at the beginning, helps emphasize the overarching conservatism of the world that Mikey lives in. If I had to chose a favorite song, it would probably be Quelqu'un m'a dit because Carla Bruni has a sexy sexy voice.
Thank you so much to

Dead Flies In The Summertime - Bandom Fic
Jan. 17th, 2011 09:12 pmThe reveal has just gone down over at
no_tags and I wrote Dead Flies In The Summertime, the Motorbaby Killjoys fic! Nobody guessed because I've only just started being active in bandom. I intend to do much more though, I love bandom! I hope there's a
bandombigbang this year. I have an idea and 12,000 words already!
Title: Dead Flies In The Summertime
Pairing/Prompt: Gerard & Motorbaby, Killjoys verse. Years down the road, their everyday life and relationship when she's sixteen and grown and hardened and amazing and everything Gerard ever wanted her to grow up to be.
Rating: R/NC-17
Warnings: Language, Non-Participatory Underageness. (Frank/Gerard or Party/Ghoul. Do I have to warn for that?)
Notes: Massive massive thanks to my lovely betas
moony_journal and
vanilla_fiend for hand-holding and reading this approximately three hundred times. Title and from Destroya by My Chemical Romance.
Motorbaby lives in the desert with four guys. She’s seen a lot of dick in her time.

So, this is not fic. But it's a promise that there will be fic and several recs for amazing stuff! It's also a much needed ramble.
