Skipping days left, right and centre, but also, whatever I can do whatever challenges I want.

In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it?

I guess I kind of talked about this in my "Year in Writing" post but this is still fun.

I'm gonna stop there so I stop procrastinating finishing the Auston/Mitch, and go back to writing that.

I fell a bit behind because of life and also being busy writing, so I'm compiling a couple days. Day 7 doesn't really need a post - went outside my comfort zone by trying out for a new hockey team, I'll make more hockey drama posts on locked sometime soon.

Day 6
In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

Hmm, I had to think about this one for a while, 'cause I think I've been pretty happy fannishly recently, but I got a couple.

* more rarepair hockey stuff. Can you believe there's only 9 (9!!) fics tagged Connor Carrick on the archive? and most of them aren't even about him? He looks like this! (That makes him look very hench, he also looks like this.) More rare hockey stuff would be awesome. There are so many "non stars" that I've fallen in love with (looking at you Colin Wilson!) that I'd love to read more about. Doing my part by writing Tyler Seguin/Connor Carrick. Next mission: Tyson Barrie/Colin Wilson.

* chat!fic/not!fic I love chatficcing with people, ebcause it's all the emotional joy with none of the work! with friends! If i got tweets or comments suggesting fic ideas I'd be over the moon.

* icons I've done some trawling and found some hockey icons, but I want more! Can I request people make me hockey icons? There doesn't seem to be anyone on dreamwidth making hockey icons, and it's a real shame.

Day 7
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created.

a perfect game I think is the best fic I wrote in 2018. It's Nate/Tyson with lots pining and feelings, and I think I really got better as a writer through making this, and I think it's probably the best complete fic I've written.

Rumours of a Sunken Ship This is probably my favorite bandom thing I ever wrote. I liked writing a long-distance friendship, I liked writing about the Panic break-up, I liked the idea of Frank and Spencer being friends. I liked the kind of slice-of-live gen. Also one of my better titles.

all my mixes making mixes is really fun and I want to do it more! I have some ~secret plans for a more ambitious style mix project that I'm hopefully gonna finish this year. My rogue one mixes here and here are good, and I like my gamora/nebula minimix a lot as well.

I got behind on Snowflake, so I guess this is me catching up. I always like the "share resources" day, because I usually get some good links out of it. So Day 5!

Day 3

Share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

I spent a little while thinking about what I wanted to share for this, and then I just decided fuck it, I'm gonna share a couple things.

Song:

I listened to this song obsessively, like literally 30 times a day, for most of being 19, and still listen to it a lot when I'm having a hard day, or need to just lie still and listen to music. It's helped me through a lot of bad days, and always reminds me of what I want to do. I want to be a person who can say they aren't afraid of time, who's ready to jump. Listening to this doesn't make me happy per se, but it makes everything easier.

Book:
All the Tamora Pierce books honestly changed my life. I was obsessed with them from the age of 9 upwards. I read every one multiple times, and I was on a messageboard (remember those!) for Tamora Pierce fans that was the first step in my internet life. I made a lot of great friends, and that messageboard was really the place that opened the doors of fandom for me, and helped me grow as a person, and I wouldn't have had that without Tammy and her amazing books.

The Washington Capital Parade Speeches
These are the speeches the Caps gave at their Stanley Cup win and are very important to me as the stuff as I was consuming right after I got into hockey. The link starts at Ovi's speech (What's up babes!!), but all of their dumb speeches make me so happy. Nicke's clearly tipsy speech. Tom's earnest happiness. TJ's absolutely dumb-as-a-brick fratboy self. Ovi saying "My team are babes!!" Everyone doing a crappy bird celebration for Kuzy. Holtby wearing his wine-mom sunglasses. All of them cuddling on the back benches together. Getting into hockey was so much fun, and I'm having so much fun in it, and this was such a happy thing to happen and be part of.

I'm doign the snowflake challenge this year, to try and keep me posting and also 'cause I've enjoyed it in the past. Doing two days at once because if I get much further behind I'll forget!

Day 1 - In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane.

Hm, this is a tricky one. I guess the most obvious is curled up in bed, with the boyfriend, reading or chatficcing on my phone, or watching a movie. I like the feeling of being alone in a completely clean flat just after I finished cleaning it. I like libraries and bookstores and museums. I miss my old student's union, where I spent at least five days a week for four years. I miss the library where I wrote my dissertation, which was always warm and empty aside from me and bff, and had comfy chairs and power outlets. The debating chamber at the students union is one of my happy places - I rarely felt as at home or as at peace or as among friends as I have felt standing at the dispatch box, or sitting on the bench eating popcorn and heckling my friends. The sandwich resteraunt in Glasgow, now closed, which was me and boyfriends' favorite place to eat. The bedroom in boyfriend & I's old flat, where the bed was in a nook and felt safe and hidden. My current living room when it's full of friends and I'm sitting on the floor watching my friends talk, or shout at each other about the board games we're playing. My childhood bedroom, looking at the moon out the windows in the ceiling, listening to the snow fall off the roof. The top of the hill behind my parents house where they walked the dog, where it's always eerily whistling as the wind goes through the electricity cables, and you can see the cairngorms. My grandparents living room, looking at the birds in the bird feeder out the window. Victoria Park in the summer, when the grass is yellow. Skating when I've got all my gear on, when I feel invincible, even if I can't turn or score yet. Looking out the window of the train north from Glasgow, when you see the sea for the first time. The drive on the slug road from aberdeen, when you come over the hill and see stonehaven harbour for the first time.

this is a pride & prejudice soulmark au and take my word for it when I say you HAVE to read this. it's satisfying and funny and smart, a well thought out au, an engaging period piece, and just an engaging, loving, beautiful piece of fiction. read it!!

i re-read this periodically, for being one of those Perfect Fics. Emotional, tightly plotted, rewarding, funny, devastating, and completely un-put-downable. it's captain america/mcu where the winter soldier has no more mission, and then decides the best way forward is to go to steve and pretend that he remembers being bucky/is recovered, and then the plot and story unfolds from there. killer.

when you lay me down you'll bury only bones podfic by growlery
this is such a lovely, perfect podfic that takes the emotions of the fic and dials it up to eleven with growlery's perfect delivery. it's welcome to night vale, and you should listen to it.

private show podfic by momo
i listen to this ALL THE TIME such that i now reread the text of private show in momo's vioce. the podfic makes the fic itself feel so real and immersive, momo's use of sound effects are really effective at creating the feeling that sid & geno have a complete and lively virtual life/digital relationship, by filling the fic with the sounds of life we're all familiar with being online. her delivery is killer and makes every scene of this fic that was already my favorite into even more my favorite!!
