clachnaben: Ancient woman in robe sits on modern bus looking disgrunted (ancient)

I wanted to try out a new take on fanmixes, and also I was thinking a lot about PK/Carey at the time, and started working on something experimental where I mixed found sounds and songs together in a single track, instead of making a playlist. It was really fun, and challenging, and I really enjoyed it, but it was a long process with a lot of thought into it, and I wanted to take the chance off-AO3 to make an annotated post about the project, with links to all the found sounds etc. So this is that!

One thing I loved about the found sounds, interviews, game broadcasts, and instagram videos was that it really helped me define the narrative I wanted the fanmix to take, and helped with the storytelling though sound and music, which was a really fun element of it. The process of finding specific sounds, whether that was finding PK's first NHL goal, or listening to tons of sportsnet coverage to find the right level of despair about Carey's bad years, was definitely long and arduous at points, but it was really fun, and I definitely collected way more content than I needed. I also think it works well in hockey where the sport and teams produce so much ephemera, so much content, that preserving it and including it in the narrative was really fun. For each "track" I've included a link to the source material, and some reasoning behind why I chose it/some background.

Uh, I probably should have done this in my earlier post but I forgot and also I wanted to do a seperate one. [personal profile] ofjustimagine asked me what I've been listening to!

I like to a lot of music. My spotify unwrapped last year said I'd listened to 75k minutes of music. which is probably too much. I listen on my commute, and when on the tube at all, and I work in an open plan office that allows headphones so I listen a lot at work.

To find new music, I use a lot of spotify's built in features (my discover weekly, and their new music playlists) but I also listen to All Songs Considered whenever I feel my music is getting stale. It's one of the few podcasts I can stand listening to at all times, because of how much music there is, and the presenters clearly loving music and keeping their chat to an acceptable level.

Recently, I've been listening to the spotify playlist of all the music featured in Peaky Blinders, since I'm writing a peaky blinders au right now and I like the vibe a lot. Lots of Johnny Cash.

Podcast wise, I've been listening to Friends at the Table, which [personal profile] growlery convinced me of in her manifesto. I'm really enjoying it! I'm the worlds slowest listener, but I'm liking it a lot. I'm listening to the Twilight Mirage series, and love Gig and Echo, and Fourteen Fifteen, and am enjoying the friendly dynamic, and how chill it is.

Sometime when the spotify web player isn't refusing to load on train wifi I'll make a post of all my favorite spotify playlists!

This past weekend I went to the Rockness festival, a small music festival just outside Inverness, on the banks of the Loch Ness. (yeah, the one with the monster)

There weren't many fandom related bands there, the only ones I can think of are Ed Sheeran (who produced(? helped out with? I don't really know) the One Direction album and is friends with the guys) and Deadmau5, who Gerard did guest vocals on a song for recently.

Line up's here, if you're curious.

I went and saw Ed Sheeran, The Mystery Jets, The Drums, Noah and The Whale, The Pigeon Detectives, Deadmau5, Madeon, DJ Fresh, some of Beardyman Little Comets. I also saw the comedians Daniel Sloss, Billy Kirkwood and Tim Minchin.
